An Evening of American Song: George Crumb & Charles Ives

Voice

Classical, Contemporary

12 July 7:05am
27 July 7:30pm Ian Hanger Recital Hall

Amber Evans (soprano) and Sam Mitchell (piano) present George Crumb’s Apparition, interspersed with songs by Charles Ives. American biographer Jan Swafford called Charles Ives a “Walt Whitman of sound,” with an innate ability to write pieces influenced heavily by traditional European styles through a distinctly American compositional style. George Crumb in turn was an avid admirer of Ives’ writing. The featured pieces for this program invites the listener to be part of this mutual admiration society, through the lens of two of America’s most influential composers of the twentieth century.

Tickets are $20 at the door. $15 concession tickets are also available.
