Celebrate International Jazz Day with a lively lunchtime concert at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, part of the global celebration of jazz and its power to unite communities across the world. Established by UNESCO in 2011 and championed by legendary pianist Herbie Hancock, International Jazz Day highlights jazz as a force for intercultural dialogue, diversity, and freedom of expression.
The Con Artists – QCGU’s premier jazz orchestra – features the Conservatorium’s top emerging jazz talent. Directed by Dr. Steve Newcomb, the ensemble presents a vibrant program of classic and contemporary big band jazz, showcasing Brisbane’s finest young musicians.
Also performing is Conception, the Bebop Ensemble led by James Sandon. Experience pure bebop energy: fast tempos, intricate lines, and the unmistakable language of Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie, brought to life by the next generation of jazz artists.
Join us for a swinging midday celebration of jazz tradition, creativity, and its global impact.
