György Ligeti’s Chamber Concerto is a rollicking, kaleidoscopic journey that the composer himself (no stranger to demanding scores) called “insanely virtuosic”. It is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to hear this iconic work performed live. Ligeti was very influenced by the luminous overlapping melodies of Palestrina’s music, and his Ave Maria is performed in a version for strings. Contrasting Ligeti’s ordered chaos is the quiet beauty of Kate Moore’s Blackbird Song.
