Join us for an evening celebrating one of the Queensland Conservatorium’s most significant contributions to the then-emerging field of artistic research in music: Stephen Emmerson and Angela Turner’s groundbreaking 2006 CD-ROM, Around a Rondo.
Created at a time when digital technologies were opening new possibilities for research dissemination, Around a Rondo offered an extraordinary exploration of the preparation and performance of Mozart’s Rondo in A minor, K.511. Through a detailed examination of a single work, the project demonstrated the depth of inquiry that underpins informed musical performance and helped establish new approaches to artistic research.
Twenty years on, both the field and the technologies that support it have evolved dramatically. To mark this anniversary, Angela Turner has led a team in reimagining the original CD-ROM as a contemporary, accessible website, ensuring this landmark project remains available to new generations of musicians, researchers and audiences.
The evening will feature:
Around Around a Rondo
Angela Turner presents a guided tour of the new website, reflecting on the challenges and opportunities involved in translating a pioneering digital project across changing technological platforms.

Beyond Around a Rondo
Stephen Emmerson joins Bernard Lanskey in conversation about the project’s continuing influence on his research and creative practice. Their discussion will be interwoven with live musical performances, tracing ideas and outcomes that can be linked back to the original work, while also extending well beyond it.
